Cari Spencer, Editor in Chief
Hello! My name is Cari Spencer and I am one of the Co-Editors in Chief. I’m a junior in Journalism II and have been writing articles for The Spartan Speaks since my freshmen year. I love how The Spartan Speaks gives me a voice, and in a world with 7.5 billion people I appreciate being able to get my thoughts out there, even if they don’t reach an international scale. Writing has been a part of me since before I knew how to spell properly, but over the last three years I’ve grown to adore journalism for more than just the writing aspect of it. From interviewing interesting people to studying media ethics, I’ve realized how gripping and important real journalism is, especially in recent times. When I’m not writing for The Spartan Speaks, I spend my time writing short stories and screenplays, reading cheesy novels, and scooping ice cream at Honey & Mackie’s in Plymouth. I also love running, so in the spring I sprint for the Orono Track & Field team. I’m looking forward to another fantastic year on The Spartan Speaks, and will work to make it the best newspaper it can be.
