Lack of Senior English Courses

As second semester breaks the horizon, students are trying to find classes they want to take (or switch into).

Seniors need to take 4 years of English to graduate, and with little options that students are actually interested in, it is a challenge.

“I took Senior Lang. [first semester] and I struggled with what to choose next,” senior Heather Alton said.

AP Lang., Senior Lang., Journalism I, Journalism II, Humanities, and Speech are a few of the options for English electives.  “I chose to take speech. I’m not a big fan of speaking in front of the class, but I didn’t know what else to choose,” Alton said.

Most seniors take Senior Lang first semester and struggle to find a class they would enjoy to take second semester. If one is not interested in writing, Journalism is not for them, Speech is hard for most people, and many say Humanities is just something they would rather not take.

“I took humanities first semester and hated it,” senior Grace Cleveland said.

The guidance office is changing some of the classes and rewriting the curriculum for English classes, so there might be some new options for seniors next year.
