The Orono Girls Swim & Dive season is coming to an end, and the team is finishing on a high note after an impressive year of competition and teamwork.
Girls Swim & Dive Sections will be held at Wilmar High School on Thursday, November 6th, at 12 pm, and Saturday, November 8th, at 1 pm.
November 6th is the section preliminaries, and November 8th is the section finals. In each event, the top 16 individual swimmers/relays advance to section finals. From there, the fastest three swimmers per event — and those that make a state cut — will advance to the state tournament, which runs from November 13-15.
“I believe that our team will do very well during sections because of how hard I have seen everyone work at every practice,” junior Miriam Nasbitt stated.
Last year, the team won sections and made history, winning the state tournament for the very first time. The Girls Swim & Dive team has had a good season this year, winning 8 dual meets and only losing 1 against Minnetonka.
“It’s been such a great season for the team. Everyone in our team does great in every meet, and everyone puts in their best effort,” Nasbitt said
The Spartans have built a legacy of achievement over the years; the team has won True Team State for the last 3 consecutive years, and has been Conference champions for the last 5 straight years, holding a flawless conference meet dual meet record of 35-0.
“It’s been an incredible season and is so fun to see everyone work hard and finish the season strong,” senior Sadie Ziegler said.
Beyond the pool, the team’s success is rooted in its strong and supportive atmosphere.
“It’s been such a fun season! Our team is so close, and it really is a family; it makes achieving our goals a lot easier and way more fun!” senior captain Graycin Andreen said.
As the season comes to a close, the girls are eager to carry their momentum into sections and state, aiming to defend their titles and continue their winning tradition.
