The Orono Girls Alpine Ski Team will head to the state meet on Oct. 15.

The Orono Girls’ Alpine Ski Team won their section meet last Wednesday at Afton Alps and will head to state next Wednesday, Oct. 15. Only the top two teams from each section advanced to the state meet. Along with Orono, Minnetonka will also head to state from this section.

Winning sections was a first time for the Girls’ Alpine Ski Team. The girls team had come second to Minnetonka in previous years, but this year they earned the title of Section V Champions. All of the girls on the team had a very strong performance at the section meet. Senior Rosie Hust won the race overall.

Senior captain Cami Reese, senior Rosie Hust, junior Jane Guidera, junior Hanna McDonnell, eighth grader Cordelia Sherwood, eighth grader Camille Kuznik and seventh grade alternate Riviera Wock will all represent Orono at the state meet on Wednesday.

The state meet will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 15 at Giants Ridge in Biwabik, MN. Here, the Girls’ Alpine team will be competing against all schools and individuals that qualified from their section.
