Maya Gardiner, Visuals Editor

Dedicated to rowing for the Long Lake Rowing Club, senior Maya Gardiner enjoys the friendships she has formed with her rowing teammates and the success she has had since joining LLRC in 2011.

In Oct. 2012, Gardiner competed in the Head of the Charles regatta, the most prestigious 2-day crew regatta in the United States, held in Boston, Mass.

In addition to rowing, Maya maintains two jobs: working concessions at the ice arena and nannying.

Maya is the Visuals Editor for the newspaper, and can work Photoshop like no other. She prefers to write articles under the Arts & Entertainment section, however, her favorite article that she has written was her hard-hitting health article on the media’s impact on body image.

Maya enjoyed researching the topic and “bringing more awareness” about the scrutinizing of body image in the media “more directly to our school.”

Maya is hoping to attend the College of Charleston in Charleston, S.C. In college, Maya is interested in majoring in Commmunications, joining a sorority and joining the newspaper staff.

During our distribution celebrations, Maya loves eating rosemary olive oil bagels with plain cream cheese from Bruegger’s.

Maya’s go to song is “Island in the Sun” by Weezer. Her favorite movie character is Simba from The Lion King.

Margeaux Dittrich is the Editor in Chief - Content of The Spartan Speaks newspaper.
