Arends Update: Jan. 21

Madi Arends breaks down the boys basketball week that was.

On Tuesday Jan. 21 the Orono boys basketball team had a tough conference game against the Waconia Wildcats.  In Wright County Conference standings the Wildcats are ranked second while your Spartans are ranked close behind at third. The Spartans fell to the Wildcats 65-62.

Starting the game for the Spartans were juniors Ellis Hammer, Cole Hennings and Ethan Larson along with seniors Chandler Perry and Andy Ten Eyck.

In this back and forth game, the Spartans trailed at halftime 32-31.  In the second half the Spartans faced foul trouble.  Larson and sophomore Sam Sustacek played much of the second half cautious because they had four fouls each.

The leading scorer for the Spartans was Hennings with 14 points followed by Ten Eyck and Larson who each brought in ten of their own.

The loss tuesday put the spartans at a 10-7 overall record and a 4-2 conference record.

On Friday Jan. 24 the boys hauled out to Dassel Cokato for another conference game.

The starters against the Chargers were juniors Ellis Hammer, Cole Hennings, Ethan Larson and seniors Chandler Perry and Andy Ten Eyck.

The boys led a majority of the game including a 12 point lead at halftime, 46-24.  The Spartans never let up and held the Chargers to only 18 second half points.  The final score was 76-42 in favor of the Spartans.

Hennings led the team with 15 points, followed by Perry with 13 points.  Juniors Patrick Codute and Chris Lecy each brought in eight points.  Lecy was on fire with a perfect shooting percentage for the night.
