Orono’s fall musical, Tuck Everlasting, is coming to a close after a fantastic week of dress rehearsals, teasers, and performances. They will wrap it up this weekend after Friday and Saturday night performances.
“[The shows] have gone really well so far. We’ve had a lot of tickets sold, and a lot of people [show up],” senior Alex Tufvander said.
In the show, Winnie Foster (played by junior Ruby Gehrman) longs for adventure outside of her suffocating life. During her flight from her overbearing family, she intercepts Jesse Tuck (played by senior Alex Tufvander). From there, Jesse and Winnie explore the world together, as they evade detectives Constable Joe and Hugo (played by senior Sam Whitman and sophomore Oliver Bertram, respectively). Simultaneously, they protect the Tuck family’s secret to immortality from “the Man in the Yellow Suit” (played by senior Maxwell Haugen).
This year’s cast has done an outstanding job with the production. Every part is vitally important, from the main characters to the ensemble and crew.
“[The ensemble is] not even close to just being background characters. They truly, truly, make up the story and are such an important role in the show, and crew as well,” Tufvander stated.
Orono Theater is busy all year with the fall musical, the winter one-act, and the spring play. They also make up the bulk of the Drama Club.
They build community by getting together and doing activities outside of school, like donating to Feed My Starving Children, ice skating, friends-giving, and casual hangouts.
“We are kind of like one big family,” notes Tufvander.
Orono Theater has had a sensational week of top-notch performances, and they’re not done yet. The incredibly talented cast, crew, and production team have worked tirelessly to bring Orono a show with an “immortal” legacy.
Spartans should come support their theater community this weekend, as these extraordinary performers showcase their talent.
