The unfiltered backstory of rock legend Bruce Springsteen comes to life in the new biopic Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere, which sets the stage for the up-and-coming legend.

Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere, which has 60% on Rotten Tomatoes and is rated PG-13, is directed by Scott Cooper, who is known for films like Hostiles and Crazy Heart. This isn’t the first music-related movie Cooper has done; however, this is his first non-fiction movie.

Set in the early 1980s, the film captures Springsteen writing his album Nebraska. Rather than using his usual rock tone in other albums, it’s a haunting solo acoustic album. Instead of focusing on the glamorous life of Bruce Springsteen selling out stadiums, it focuses on a man seeking silence and simplicity.

Jeremy Allen White, coming off of the very successful TV show The Bear, stars as Bruce Springsteen. White reportedly spent months perfecting the mannerisms, voice, and guitar work to solidify the authenticity of the role.

Joining White are Odessa Young as fictional character Faye, Paul Walter Hauser as Mike Batlan, and Stephen Graham as Douglas Frederick Springsteen to round out the cast.

The film’s raw emotions help portray the humble situation Springsteen was in. His home-recorded tracks are echoed throughout the movie, reminding the audience of the emotions that were felt during this acoustic album.

Cooper’s direction for the film could be called intimate and authentic, as it captures the exploration of self-discovery. The cinematography captures the remote beauty of New Jersey’s landscapes, perfectly matching the tone of the real-life album Nebraska.

Jeremy Allen White’s portrayal can be described as perfect, making me and many others believe that he will be a contender for the Oscars. For longtime fans, the film offers a rare glimpse into the artist behind the songs, showing the power of creativity born from seclusion.
