On Saturday, September 14th, the Red Bull team showed off an arrangement of cars in the streets of Minneapolis on 4th Street along The Commons. They gave the show to 50,000 racing fans on the streets led by the 13-time Grand Prix winner, David Coulthard.
The two-hour-long show was the first F1 exhibition in Minneapolis and it was packed with enthusiastic fans.
“It was a great experience and very loud,” sophomore Luke Hamer said. It was loud because the legendary F1 driver David Coulthard was doing burnouts in a powerful V10-powered RB7 F1 car.
“The Red Bull Showrun here in Minneapolis was incredible, the crowd was amazing. It was a great show with all the different athletes putting on excellent demonstrations, Minneapolis embraced the spirit of F1, and the excitement from the fans made it a memorable event.” Said, Coulthard
One of the most impressive stunts of the day was performed by the legendary snowmobiler Levi LaVallee who was inducted into the Snowmobile Hall of Fame. LaVallee jumped his snowmobile over Coulthard in his F1 car while doing burnouts, leaving the crowd in awe.
The show also featured Scott Speed; an open-wheel, stock car, and rallycross racer performing multiple burnouts in the streets of Minneapolis in his Subaru WRX STI Rallycar, followed by Aaron Colton who gave a show to the audience by riding a Triumph Street Triple 765 demo bike, and Mike Rockenfeller who drove his Ford Mustang GT3.
“I love it. (Minneapolis) I went on a run this morning, and there were so many people outside being active,” Speed said.
Minneapolis fans were able to cheer on their fellow Minneapolitan, Aaron Colton who was born and raised in central Minneapolis. The hometown hero drew out roars and cheers from the crowd as he, Scott Speed, and Mike Rockenfeller went down 4th street and did a first-ever for the Red Bull Showrun program: a three-way donut competition.
This stunning display brought out energy from the crowd and the sound of the engines echoed along the street and throughout the area of downtown. This, together with LaVallee and Coulthard’s stunt, closed out the event. At the end, all the drivers were driven down the street, giving the fans one last chance to show their spirit and enthusiasm for this Red Bull Showrun event.
