Below is an account of the Class of 2024’s opinions of homecoming week.

Senior year is full of lasts, and one of the most momentous parts of any school year is Homecoming Week. This was certainly the case for this year’s graduating class, from their dominating Class Comp win to leading the football game’s student section. However, there were a few differences this time around. Due to the cold weekend weather, both the pep fest and Homecoming dance were held inside, the former in the gym and the latter behind the bleachers. Here to give their opinions on their final Homecoming season is the Class of 2024.

“While I did think the Homecoming dance was cramped, I think the games in the gym nearby gave everyone something to have fun with. Also the fashion was stellar,” Kaelin Carpenter said.

“We had probably the greatest football game atmosphere last Friday. Also, the dance location behind the bleachers was superior to both outside and the cafeteria. However, the indoor pep fest was lame,” Owen Barkley said.

“I loved keeping the traditions alive, such as the senior girls painting and wearing overalls for Friday and taking pictures on the turf after the football game. My only issue was that we ran out of time for Class Comp and had to cut some events,” Haylie McConn said.

“While I was not able to go to the dance, I did love the rest of the week because there were so many different activities. My favorite part was being on homecoming court, [because it] was so fun…” Joey Mugaas said.

This year’s Homecoming week was full of changes, from the bleacher-side dance to Wednesday’s college fair and applications work day, and who knows, maybe some of these celebrations will stick and remain Orono traditions for years to come
