Casa Amigos opened their doors in Mound on January 30th, 2023, where beloved local restaurant Scotty B’s once operated until late 2022. The new restaurant was met with a warm reception, the official Casa Amigos FaceBook page saying “We want to thank you to everyone who came out and supported us on our opening day! We are so excited to be part of this community and you all definitely gave us a big welcome!”

Upon entering around 5:30 PM, the restaurant was crowded. Roughly 80% of the tables were occupied, with more people coming in by the minute. The host greeted us immediately and swiftly led me to my booth. As I sat down, I felt as though I was cramped between the booth and the table.

The dining room was inviting, being painted a variety of warm reds and yellows with scenery hanging on the walls. Classic Mexican restaurant music can be heard playing throughout the dining room.

Within minutes of sitting down, our server came by with complimentary chips and salsa. The chips were to my liking, but the salsa was lacking in acidity and salt. The chips and salsa felt light and refreshing, and despite the slightly lackluster salsa, I still found myself snacking on them until my entree arrived.

My server was very polite and seemed to be engaged in his work. He always made sure to refill my water whenever it was getting empty. Within a few minutes, I decided what I wanted and put in my order; one beef tostada and one beef burrito with a side of rice and black beans. The average price of a meal typically ranged between $13 and $16.

The food came out after ten to fifteen minutes, steaming hot. The beans were a nice side dish, though the rice could have used some additional seasoning or salt. The tortas were tasty, but it had a bit too much lettuce and I would have preferred to have the sour cream on the side. The burrito was delicious yet simplistic, the sauce complimented the beef well. By the end of the meal, I was full, unfortunately not having enough room to try their dessert menu.

As a whole, I’d recommend giving Casa Amigos a shot. The service and food are both great for their relatively low cost, which beats out other Mexican restaurants such as San Pancho or Lagos Tacos. It is a great place to go if you want something quick and tasty while not spending a fortune on dinner.
