Biography

Vance, 40, was born in Middletown, Ohio in 1984. Vance joined the US Marine Corps following his graduation from high school, serving as a military journalist from 2003-2007. Vance published his memoir Hillbilly Elegy: A Memoir of a Family and Culture in Crisis in 2016, detailing his impoverished childhood. Although initially a critic of former President Donald Trump, he was elected to the US Senate in Ohio with his endorsement in 2022, and was ultimately picked as his running mate in the 2024 presidential election.
