Students Honored at Academic Night

On Monday night the Orono community came together to celebrate the academic achievements of the junior and senior classes. OHS Principal Dave Benson and the guidance office recognized students that have maintained a GPA of a 3.5 or above thus far in their high school career. AP Scholars were also recognized.

The Junior Book Awards were awarded. These are giving to a selected student at schools across the country based on community service, leadership and academics.  Grace Leslie won the St. Lawrence Book Award. The Dartmouth Book Award went to Betsy Surver.  Alexandra Morrison received the Harvard Book Award and Owen Erpelding was the recipient  the Yale Book Award.

Also recognized were the National Merit Scholars, Presidential Scholar Nominees, Prudential Spirit of Community, Eagle Scout and Girl Scout Gold Awards.

“‘It’s a small place, yet there are those that love it,’” Dartmouth Alum Mike Wall said, while giving out the Dartmouth Award. Mike was quoting famous Dartmouth Alumni Daniel Webster. “I think this is true about Orono. It’s a small place, yet there are those who love it.”
