A 38 year old man is now in custody after he was seen running into the Payless Shoes at 8510 NW. Springbrook Drive with what seemed to be a firearm. Police from three different agencies responded to an alarm from the store at 8:43 p.m. Thursday night, Jan. 22. Officers from Coon Rapids, Blaine and Fridley set a perimeter around the store and a hostage negotiator began over the phone negotiations with the suspect. After several minutes, the suspect came out unharmed and peacefully surrendered. The two store employees taken were rescued and unharmed.
