At 1:20 PM, the Associated Press reported that Los Angles Clippers owner, Donald Sterling, was banned from the NBA after racist tapes of a voicemail he left for his girlfriend was released.

NBA Commissioner, Adam Silver, explained the leagues response and what to expect next for the Clipper owner. Alongside the ban, fined $2.5 million – the maximum allowable under the NBA constitution. If three-fourths of the other 29 owners agree to Silver’s recommendation, Sterling will be forced to sell the team he has owned since 1981 according to the Associated Press.

The tapes were released Saturday by TMZ and since then the league and Sterling have been under heat. Sponsorships wanted to withdraw from the league and players were prepared to boycott. The tapes were of Sterling leaving his girlfriend a voicemail detailing not to bring blacks people to his games.

Basketball greats, including Magic Johnson, owners and even President Obama have commented on this issue and expressed their opinions very clearly. Johnson, who is a ex- Laker player, said he would not attend another Clipper game as long Sterling owns the team according to his Twitter.

In the mist of this, the Clippers, who Sterling owns, are in the playoffs and play tonight against the Golden State Warriors. That series is tied up at two games each as they head into Game five.

13 others have been banned from the NBA and Sterling adds 14 to that list. Johnson, and others are on the short list to buy the Clippers if the owners oust Sterling from his duties.

The date is unsure when the owners will get together and vote but Sliver has a good feeling they will do the right thing according to ESPN.
