Sadies dance is just a dance

Sadies has become more along the lines of a “Dog Eat Dog World”

Amongst the wintertime activities, preparations for holiday festivities and last-minute studying before tests are taken prior to winter break, the Sadies Hawkins dance has elevated the levels of stress among OHS students, specifically females.

Wrapping up the 2014 Winterfest Week, the Winterfest dance, otherwise known as Sadies, is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014. Traditionally, girls asks guys to the dance.

Although the actual dance is more than five weeks away, girls in grades 9 through 12 have already begun to ask dates.

The battle for a date, however, has been a ruthless one, particularly between the girls in the junior and senior class.

While this will be the second-to-last dance the seniors will have in high school, many senior girls had had their hopes set on asking a fellow senior boy.

Some junior girls, though, were already planning on asking boys in the senior class, which started the conflict between the two grades.

The conflict fueled a race to ask the senior boys. “[T]here was all this drama of who was going to ask who first,” junior Natily Larkin said.

The drama forced many of the junior and senior girls to move onto plan B.

“The juniors feel entitled for some unknown reason,” senior Emily Knight said.

The drama, it seems, has filtered into the social media world, as well.

Posts on Twitter referring to the conflict as the Hunger Games and as a “Dog Eat Dog World” depict the tension building because of the drama.

Overall, “it’s sad that this has become an issue because there are much more important things to be worrying about than finding a date to a high school dance,” Larkin said.
