Orono High School
Read the following article to learn about Orono’s newest counselor, Ms. Handrick.

Meet Ms. Lauren Handrick, the newest counselor at OHS. Ms. Handrick has spent 14 years working as a school counselor across the state of Minnesota, most recently as a college and career counselor in Rogers, Minnesota. She also worked abroad as the Director of International University Counseling at Tarsus American College in Tarsus, Türkiye

Ms. Handrick is married and has two kids. Some of her interests include listening to podcasts, gardening, cooking, and traveling internationally.

Ms. Handrick says that she wants to make students feel authentic, genuine, and valued. Ms. Handrick said that, “One thing that I noticed that I would like to work on is that there can be a lot more utilization of Schoology in some different ways to keep students informed on lots of things that are happening … There’s a feature that I have noticed that isn’t really being utilized… recent activity … used to share about events or resources”

While Ms. Handrick is new to OHS and still learning and observing, she wants every student to know that she is there to help them academically, emotionally, and with their lives after High School.

“School Counselors are supporting students on all aspects of their high school journey. One is academics … We also support students in the areas of personal and social … We support students in exploring their talents/strengths/interests as it relates to a future career path,” Ms. Handrick said.

Let’s all give Ms. Handrick a warm welcome to the OHS Community!
