The Orono Dance team is continuing their winning streak from last year by placing first in their competition on Nov. 23. They debuted their brand new kick routine for this year, which is escape room themed.

“We scored a 366 which is amazing for our first competition,” Senior and captain Mya Ramaker said.

In order to get these fantastic scores, the Team endures extensive training and practices. “We do an hour of FitHaus training on Monday and Wednesday, which is conditioning. Then, we do two and a half hours of practice five days a week,” Ramaker said.

The intense dances take weeks to prepare. During practices, they condition, stretch, and learn choreography. These extreme workouts get them in shape for their tough competitions.

Last year, the team placed first in kick, second in jazz at the conference meet, and were the overall conference champion. The team hopes to continue its legacy this year.

ODT has a busy week approaching, with a kick conference in Litchfield on Thursday and a competition in Waconia on Saturday.

“I love Dance Team. It’s a great release for me and helps me with my teamwork skills,” junior Carson Bunkers said.
