During the week of Valentine’s Day each year, Orono High School students have the opportunity to buy an Orange Crush in the cafeteria. Students can give these to their crushes, friends, teachers, or even buy them for themselves.

“Amanda [Marquis], Gracie [Parrott], and I gave a crush to Mr. Porter because he is our favorite teacher and we wanted to show how much we appreciate him. We wanted to make his day and put a smile on his face,” said senior Kristin Van Buren.

The Crushes are given out during lunches on Valentine’s Day. They cost $1 each. They accept both cash and money through venmo. Upon purchase, students get a sheet of paper where they can write a message to whomever they are giving the Crush to, if they choose. They may also make their Crushes stay anonymous by not giving a name when they purchase them.

Giving Orange Crushes is a great way to tell your crush you like them, or just show your friends or teachers that you appreciate them.
