The record of most liked picture on instagram was broken this weekend by, you guessed it, a picture of a brown egg. The picture was posted on the 4th of January and shortly after surpassed the record. The previous record holder, Kylie Jenner with 18 million likes, comes nowhere near to what the new record is. The single picture of an egg currently has 40,481,003 likes with 1,923,283 comments and shows no signs of stopping.

The account that posted the picture, @world_record_egg, currently has 5.7 million followers with just one picture. Seemingly out of nowhere, the picture gained publicity through reposting of the picture through instagram stories. The goal was obvious through the accounts bio, “Let’s set a world record together and get the most likes on instagram.” The Bio now currently reads, “Official world record holders of the most liked picture on instagram.”

Senior Sam Bazil said, “It’s a pretty unique photo to hold the most likes on Instagram, but very cool to see someone’s lofty goal become accomplished”

Instagram is currently booming with mimicking accounts such as World_reord_Tomatoe and recordbreakerpotato attempting to reach as much fame as the egg did. However, nothing is achieving the success that the infamous instagram egg has received. The account is planning on selling the heavily requested “egg merch” in its near future. The amount of likes seem to become endless for this record breaking egg.
