Students sign National Letters of Intent

Six Orono High School students signed letters to play college sports on Feb. 12 as part of National Signing Day.

During Spartan Hour on Feb. 12, six seniors from Orono High School signed either a Celebratory Letter for Division Three athletics, National Letter of Intent for Division 1 athletics or a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) letter.

Leah Goehring signed her National Letter of Intent with Butler University in Indianapolis to play Division One soccer for the Dawgs alongside her sister and OHS alumni, Carly Goehring.

Max Blaschke signed his NAIA letter and will be attending Culver Stockton College located in Canton, Missouri to play football for the Wildcats.

Caleb Olson will be playing Division Three football and baseball for the Cobbers at Concordia College in Moorhead, MN, after signing his Celebratory Letter.

Guy Mohs signed his Celebratory Letter representing his commitment to be a Johnnie this fall playing soccer at St. John’s University located in St. Cloud.

Spencer Overturf and Marcus Anderson will both be attending University of St. Thomas in St. Paul this fall. Overturf will be playing soccer for the Tommies while Anderson plays football. Both signed Celebratory Letters for their Division Three commitments.

In addition to the Feb. 12 signing date, the National Collegiate Athletic Association held its first National Letter of Intent signing date at OHS in November. Max Bjorklund, Jarvis Omersa, Maddie Loder, Lizi Norton and Bobby Striggow were the five OHS students that signed letters on Nov. 8, 2017 for various athletic scholarships. There will be an additional signing date in April, according to NCAA policy.
