2017 Orono Food Drive

March 20 was the beginning of this year’s food drive. The purpose for this food drive is to raise awareness on suburban poverty and support IOCP’s Prevent Hunger Awareness Month. This will be run by Orono’s IOCP Youth Board and you can give any donations to them. Donations include money and cans of food that will be sent directly to IOCP food shelves for families in need of food.

To get Orono more involved, volunteers have devised a game that will happen during Spartan Hour. If you bring in a can of food, then your Spartan Hour gets one point and if you bring in money, say one dollar, then you will get two points. The Spartan Hour with the most points will win donuts from Hans’ Donuts. This will last all week.

IOCP stands for Interfaith Outreach & Community Partners and is a nonprofit organization. They also be hosted Orono Empty Bowls on April 6, taking place in our cafeteria. Tickets were $10 and they served a soup meal made by local students.
