On March 3 and 4, the Orono Boys Swim and Dive Team competed at the State tournament at the University of Minnesota. The team had been incredibly successful all year, with multiple invite wins as well as a Conference Championship title. At the Conference Championship meet, they broke seven conference records, and one team record, thus making the boys very prepared to take on State.
The talk of the State tournament was when the team of seniors Sig Mueller, Andy Kileen and Will Brenton, and junior Peter Sherek won the 200-yard medley relay. Not only that, but they also set a State meet record for their medley with a time of 1.33.95, which earned them an All American consideration.
As a team, the boys placed third of 33 teams, which was the best OHS has ever done overall at State. This was also the top placement of any public school in their class.
Another state Championship title was earned by Brenton in his 100-yard backstroke event and a time of 50.09. Brenton ended his senior season as his most successful one, with two Championship titles.
