Seniors Alison Tallen and Melanie Iversen show off their signed ‘Thank You’ Poster.

In light of the recent happenings at OHS, there has been a tension among the students and faculty. After the senior meeting and the speech given by principal David Benson, a few OHS seniors felt it would be the right thing to extend an arm of gratitude and express their appreciation for the janitorial staff.

Seniors Alison Tallen and Melanie Iversen took it upon themselves to make a poster and give a small gift to the janitorial staff. The day after Benson’s speech, Tallen and Iversen took to social media to ask the senior class to sign the poster and chip in on the gift. Tallen brought the poster in for an entire week in efforts to get as many people to sign it as possible. By the end of the week, names were covering the poster. Iversen also went to Caribou Coffee to buy gift cards for each of the janitors.

The janitors received the gift last Friday and were very surprised. They hardly suspected that anyone would take the time to thank them, let alone get a card and gift for them.

“They seemed grateful but kind of like ‘why are you giving this to me’. They were surprised that we were giving it to them because they were just doing their job,” Iversen said.
Overall, the poster was a big success as it brought happiness to our amazing janitors.
