“I love alpine because of the people and the rush I get when I ski,” freshman Adie Bendickson. This is Bendickson’s third year as a member of Orono alpine ski team.
Adie has been skiing for eleven years. She started skiing when she was three years old.
“I kept skiing because I love it so much,” A. Bendickson said. She also said that she started skiing because her whole family did it, including her brother Mac.
Mac is her sibling and is also a teammate.
“It’s really great having Adie as a sibling and teammate. It gives us the unique chance to compete and grow together in a sport we both love,” said M. Bendickson.
Bendickson also says that having her brother as a teammate is really important.“He is a supportive brother who always tries to help me out and helps me strive to do better,” For the two of them have been skiing together their whole lives.
He really enjoys her presence on the team because of her personality on and off the ski hill. “Adie plays many roles in Alpine; she is both an excellent athlete that helps push our team to the top, but also a great teammate that is a great friend to everybody,” said M. Bendickson.
Adie’s friendliness and hard work is also noticed by captains, “Adie is always positive, inclusive, friendly, helpful and hardworking,” senior captain Margeaux Dittrich said.
Jay Weinand, the Alpine coach recognizes Adie’s talent and potential. “She is truly a wonderful presence on our team; she is magnetic and full of life. As a teammate she is so supportive to those around her, and I’ve never heard her complain a single time,” Weinand said.
“Adie has made some great progress with her skiing and will definitely be helping the varsity girls win some races this season,” Weinand said.
When anticipating how well they will do this season, Bendickson thinks they will do very well.“I think that we will be pretty good this year, especially with Rosie Hust,” A.Bendickson said.
The first girl’s Alpine race was Thursday, Dec.19.
