This past week the Orono boys hockey team (6-3-0) went 3-0 against their opponents.
Dec. 17 the Orono boys hockey team played Hutchinson at Orono Ice Arena.
This was the first game of a three game week for the Spartans. “It’s a grinding week,” Coach Kasey Yoder.
The Spartans were coming off a win against old foe, The Blake School, and went into Tues. on a high note.
The Spartans jumped on the Tigers right away with a goal from senior captain, Jake Flemmer, 48 seconds into the game.
“That was a great way to start,” senior Ellis Noerenberg said. Junior Will LeNeave added to the Spartan lead five minutes after Flemmer’s first. Roughly a minutes after LeNeave’s, Flemmer got his second of the game.
The Spartans did not stop there though. The Spartans added five more goals in the second.
“Coach didn’t like the way we finished the first [period],” senior Robby Fellers said. “You could say we received the message.”
Fellers tailed two goals in the second period. Along side Fellers, junior Cole Goulet, sophomore David McCusky, and senior Jake Flemmer completing his hat trick.
“It felt good,” Flemmer said. “No matter how old you are, getting a hat trick is always a great feeling.”
The Spartans added three more goals in the final period. Goulet getting his second of the game, Trip Renard got his 5 goal of the season. Joey Luedtke got his first goal of the year to boost the Spartans to 11-0 win over the Tigers.
Dec. 19 the Spartans went to Plymouth Ice Arena to take on formal section rival, Providence Academy (record here).
The Spartans coming off a big win against Hutch were hopeful going into Providence.
“We owe them this one,” senior Robby Fellers said, “They beat us in sections last year, we need this one.”
