It’s no surprise that Miley Cyrus’ new album Bangerz debuted with a bang. But, will her fans follow her shocking new style of music?

Gone are the days of the Hannah Montana we all knew and loved, because a new and more risqué version of Miley Cyrus has hit the stage.

Cyrus’ new style of music is quite a change from her old style. Her new music contains a combination of hip-hop and pop, something that her country-style voice could not pull off.

With Cyrus’ recent behavior at awards shows, it is not surprising to hear more profanity and suggestive language in her songs. Her album is definitely directed at a more mature audience.
In an interview with Ellen DeGeneres, Cyrus explained that her album was about her story with ex-fiancé Liam Hemsworth.

The story began with the song “Adore You,” which was an expression of her love for Hemsworth. The album ends with the song “Someone Else,” which explained how she can no longer feel love because Hemsworth “left with her heart.”

Some of the songs contained a beautiful narration of her story, but this was easily overlooked due to the annoying, repetitive beats, her auto tuned voice and her provocative music videos.

Cyrus has proven with past albums that she has musical talent, but this album did not do her vocals justice.

She may be trying to express herself in a new way, but her new music does not play to her strengths as an artist.

As Cyrus displayed her new musical style, some have decided to reject it. Some, however, have chosen to embrace the new Miley Cyrus. While many of her songs on the new album were hip-hip, some were slow ballads that displayed a sensitive, vulnerable side to Cyrus.

Songs such as “Maybe You’re Right” and “Someone Else” allow listeners to feel the emotion that Cyrus felt in the midst of her struggles.

Trust me, listen to “Friday” and “What Does the Fox Say” as opposed to one of Miley’s horrendous songs.

Although Cyrus’ album doesn’t necessarily play to her musical strengths, she exhibited a lot of emotion, something that all artists strive to do.
