Now that the early May snowfall has come to an end the Orono boys baseball team’s season has finally begun.
Six games have been postponed for the team and opening day fell on April 25 instead of the planned April 5.
As of May 13, the team’s record sits at one win and eight losses, with their only win coming against the Hutchinson Tigers.
Captains for the 2013 season are seniors Tommy Wachman and Andrew Jordan. Other seniors on the team are Jack Pendleton, Trevor Knight, Ryan Greiber, Sean Sheldon and Justin Pikes.
They are coached by Dick Crandall (head), Bill Burke and John Webb (assistants).
Though the weather has not been ideal baseball playing conditions, the compact season has brought a few benefits to the team. “It has definitely affected us,” said sophomore catcher Logan Kinsel.
“[Jake] Flemmer’s in front of me catching and we have had to have some doubleheaders. He usually plays the first [game] and I play the second [game]. That’s a benefit to me.”
Two weeks remain in the regular season, two home games and three away for the baseball team.
They finished their regular season away at Delano on May 20 while sections began on May 25.
