Point guard Mya Moore hit a huge milestone in her basketball career on January 27th at Chanhassen High School when she hit her 1000 point. The day was very exciting for everyone. Myas coaches, teammates, friends and family were all there cheering her on.
“Everyone was super excited and jumping for joy with her and super excited to celebrate that milestone with her,” Junior Sophie Staloch said.
Mya has been on the Orono Girls Basketball team since 8th grade. Since then, she has accomplished many things so far and she is only a sophomore. Off and on the court, Mya’s teammates have shared great things about her.
“She’s always supportive of everyone and very encouraging to all of her teammates,” Senior Maggie Lundell said.
On the court, Mya averages about 20 points a game and even more. She is a very quick player and is all over the court. When it comes to making threes, free throws, rebounds and steals, she can do it all.
“She is extremely well rounded in everything and is a hustler,” Maggie Lundell said. Mya can also, “See the floor really well and has a great basketball IQ,” Seniors Evie Kompelien and Gabby Knooihuizen stated.
Mya has been ranked in the top ten in the class of 2026. She also has been ranked in the top 6 on Prep Hoops.
Mya Moore is overall an amazing basketball player but she is also many other things. A great teammate, friend and player. Her teammates have shared some positive things about Mya and what makes her a good teammate.
“She is very uplifting and always positive. She is very humble and also acknowledges everyone’s success, big or small,” Staloch and Knooihuizen said.
Myas teammates have also shared some of their favorite things about Mya. Most of what they said has nothing to do with her skill on the court. It has to do with how she is as a person and what makes Mya, Mya.
“How much she cares about people,” Staloch said.
“She is one of the sweetest people ever,” Kompelien said.
“Her funny jokes,” Lundell said.
“How funny Mya is and overall she is a great teammate and a role model for the younger girls,” Knooihuzien said.
Mya Moore is an excellent basketball player and she will grow into an even better player but Mya is much more than a player who has been ranked in the top 10 in the state. She is an amazing teammate, friend and player. She cares about her team and wants everyone to succeed. She is a very humble and selfless player. She is a role model to the younger players, especially her sister Ally Moore.
