People, there is a holiday in between Halloween and Christmas. It’s called Thanksgiving; you know, the last Thursday in November. And the best part for this one is that you don’t have to dress up to get free food. Although, you might have to set the table for grandma.

Some people just rush after Halloween and don’t even stop for Thanksgiving decorations. I’ve seen nativity sets and light-up reindeer out in yards even before Halloween; that’s just out of control.

Long story short, long after 1492 when Columbus sailed the ocean blue, people from Spain wanted religious and economic freedom so they hopped on the Mayflower and headed east to what is now the U. S. of A. Fun fact: there was actually another ship besides the Mayflower called the Speedwell making that journey.

Surprisingly, the world was indeed not flat and they made it here in one piece.

The area they first landed on, now known as southeastern Massachusetts had been the home of the Wampanoag Indians for hundreds of years. Together the two groups helped each other thrive and decided to celebrate their successful harvests with a yummy feast in the fall.

Why rush into Christmas when you can enjoy this traditional holiday of gathering, being thankful, and most importantly, feasting.

Some families just get a little too excited about Christmas and the stigma associated with it. Don’t get me wrong, Christmas is my favorite holiday and I think everyone, no matter what culture or religion should celebrate.

It’s fun to gather with family and enjoy food, games and good laughs. It’s also fun to decorate the tree with all the lights and ornaments. I love whipping out the old ornaments I made as a child, even the one that’s supposed to be an angel but more resembles a zombie bride. Whatever, I tried.

Not any date in particular, but we as a country should at least wait to break out those light-up plastic reindeer until after our Thanksgiving meal is fully digested.

Here in Minnesota, there should also be snow on the ground otherwise it just doesn’t feel right. Sadly, last Christmas [I gave you my heart] there was barely any snow on Christmas, which is just really sad.

If we start the Christmas decorating too early and drag it on for months, then we can lose some of the happiness the season brings. There is just an appropriate time and place to spread that Christmas cheer for all to hear, and it’s certainly not before the month of November.

If we stay true to our cause, together we can calm down the avid decorators of this world and put an end to premature Christmas decorating.
