In front of parents and students, 25 Orono girls basketball players recognized teachers who they thought helped them a significant amount in and out of the class room. On Tuesday Feb. 5 the Orono Girls Basketball team hosted their third annual teacher night. Before the start of the second game in the double header that night 27 teachers were called down to the court.
One by one the players said whom they had picked and handed them a card thanking them. After the congratulation and thanks each girl and their teacher got their picture taking for the memories to be remembered.
Many teachers found this event exciting. “This is so fun and a great experience,” said elementary and MAC teacher Stephanie Johnson, “I had no idea who picked me. I went though the list of girls searching for the ones in MAC.” Curiosity rose in the teachers leading up to the game, many had no idea who they were picked by.
Overall the moment was filled with smiles and laughs as many teachers were thrilled and honored to be chosen for the event.
The Orono girls basketball team has their next home game is Tuesday Feb. 12 against the Hutchinson Tigers at 7:00 p.m.
