Boys Hockey Routs Northfield, Progresses to State Semifinals

Orono will now face St. Cloud Cathedral on Friday

#6 Orono defeated #3 Northfield on Wednesday to advance to the state semifinals.

#6 Orono crushed #3 Northfield 8-2 during the quarterfinal round of the boys hockey state tournament today at the Xcel Energy Center.

Orono gained an early lead in the first period with a goal by #9 Trey Landa. #28 Ethan Pagel scored again later in the period, bringing Orono to a 2-0 lead at the end of the period.

Orono had a big second period with an early goal by #13 Talan Reuter and two goals by #16 Rory Kvern. Northfield was able to score 2 goals during the period, bringing the score at the end of second period to 5-2.

Orono continued their domination in the third period with a combined 3 goals from Lachlan Hoffman, Trey Landa, and Ethan Pagel, bringing the final score to 8-2.

Orono will now face #2 St. Cloud Cathedral at 11:00 am on Friday at the Xcel Energy Center.
