It all started with Robert Downey Jr. starring in Iron Man in 2008. After 11 years, the final chapter of heroes we have grown up with has reached its culmination.
Avengers: Endgame features the original six actors: Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Chris Evans as Captain America and Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man. Other key characters in this installment include Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Bradley Cooper as Rocket the Raccoon and Don Cheadle as War Machine.
Over the years, we have seen all of these characters develop and grow in not only the Avenger movies, but their solo films as well. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has done some excellent writing in order to intertwine all of these films together. In this film, thanks to screenplay writers Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus, there were moments that allowed the viewers to remember a small detail that could be noticeable if they had seen the movies prior.
Opening weekend of Avengers: Endgame earned a total of $1.2 billion worldwide surpassing its predecessor, Infinity War, according to Marvel. Currently this film is sitting at number two of all-time grossing films at $2.3 billion, according to Box Office Mojo. It is impressive how superhero movies have come this far to dominate box office records two years in a row.
Stan lee and Jack Kirby created the heroes, beloved by many, in 1963, according to comic historian Peter Sanderson and writer Michael A. Martin. With that being said, over the years the characters have been evolving in the comics, as the artists have tried to emulate the actors’ features since the movies came out. The directors also do a good job of having the characters stay true to their personalities; Iron man being arrogant, Captain America being nobel, and Thor being ignorant of Earth customs.
The fight scenes in this high definition are visually appealing with the use of IMAX cameras to get sharper images and more screen to fit more content. On occasion one could tell the fighting was not real, but more often than not the scenes were very well-choreographed and jaw dropping.
The combination of the music and the actors delivery provoke strong emotions throughout the film.
Not only was Endgame visually appealing to the viewer, but the musical score was spectacular. The score for this film created by composer Alan Silvestri, which includes the use of orchestral sound from the strings and percussion, create a chilling sensation when paired with the visuals of the film. The score has a grand-ness similar to the classical Star Wars score. Silvestri has composed for many other movies, like Predator, Cast Away and The Polar Express.
On top of the serious moments and intense fighting scenes, there are some good laughs. Thor, Rocket and Ant-Man were the main characters that would induce this laughter for the audience. These characters have a lot of wit and sarcasm which brought a smile to the viewer’s face.
Avengers: Endgame is truly worth the three hours, not only due to the emotional roller coaster of the plot, but to the awe-inspiring camera work, musical score and acting. For these reasons, it deserves 9.5/10 stars. This is not a perfect score because there were some parts that felt forced or a little over the top.
Even though, seven years in the making, the original Avengers has come to an end, it is not the end of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. There are more movies to come, and, who knows, there might possibly be a new Avengers team in the future.
