During the weekend of April 27 to April 29, OHS theater students put on a production of Harvey. Harvey is a story about a man, Elwood P. Dowd, and his best friend, Harvey-a pooka who is a six foot invisible rabbit.
As Elwood starts introducing Harvey to friends and relatives around town, his sister, Veta Louise, and her daughter, Myrtle Mae, become embarrassed to be around him. The story unfolds as Veta tries to put Elwood into a sanitarium and she begins to realize that even though her brother is being a little strange, she loves him and his imaginary friend just the way they are.
Although the performances just last a few days, months and months of learning lines and rehearsing goes into an OHS theater production.
“Auditions began in February. Since then we’ve been working everyday after school for about two and a half hours for two months. We also have to put time in after practice to memorize your lines. We also have set construction every Saturday,” junior Audrey Patterson said.
It was senior Danika Brockman’s first play production, and she was very glad to be apart of the show.
“It was really cool to be apart of a group that was so inclusive and so nice! I loved working through the play with these people and performing with them was one of the most fun experiences of my high school career,” Brockman said
The fall musical has not been announced yet. Auditions should start around the second week of September in the fall of 2017.
