For those in search of an endless winter, your dreams are coming true. Buck Hill has just installed a new Nevaplast dry slope that opened on Sept. 23. Neveplast is a plastic carpet like surface that covers the hill and allows year round skiing, no matter the conditions. Buck Hill has covered two runs with it and put in a small terrain park.
“I was skeptical of how the Neveplast would be. I was surprised at how similar it is to snow,” Minnetonka senior Sergi Pigellum said.
Neveplast does not require any special equipment. Normal ski equipment can be used. One flaw of the Neveplast is that since it is plastic it warms up the base of your skis and can cause them to melt if precautions are not taken. Dunking skis in water at the bottom of each run insures that the bases of the skis stay in good condition for when it snows.
Buck Hill got bought last fall and big changes are coming to the little ski area. The old restaurant, Tuckers, has undergone some major changes and now is open in the off season and has been renamed Blacked Diamond. This is just the first stage of the renovations that the new owners are planning.
