The world today seems to be consumed with idea that war will cause humanity’s self destruction, but what if it was actually the air we are breathing? One of the effects pollution has on our world is eutrophication, when rain carries and deposits nitrogen and some pollutants on rivers and soil. This can cause algae growth in some lakes and water bodies which can be harmful to some organisms.
One of the more serious effects of polluting is particulate matter, and this affects humans. Some short term effects are irritation of the eyes, nose and throat. This can cause bronchitis and pneumonia. As for the long term effects particulate matter, a few are lung cancer, heart disease and may even cause damage to the brain.
Burning fossil fuels is one of the more popular ways to pollute. Although it may sound as though there is no going back from this point, there is hope. Humans are getting better and better each day by carpooling, recycling plastics and even using more organic products on their lawns.
Some other ways to prevent further pollution are using energy wisely, turning the lights off in vacant rooms, recycling and reusing things like the plastic bags and aluminum cans. Even small changes in lifestyle can make huge differences for people in the future.
