Sophomore shooting guard Tori Andrew is the third recipient of Athlete of the Month for the Orono Spartans during the 2014-2015 sports season.
Andrew has been on a roll this season and is one of the reasons why the Orono girls basketball team is ranked number one in the state for 3AAA according to Minnesota Girls Basketball Hub.
The Spartans have a record of 18-1 and likely will receive a number one seed in sections.
The girls have many seniors but are led by the superb play of Andrew. Orono has a deep bench and will run 9 players no matter the game.
One thing the girls do extremely well is quickly get out in transition and play great defense.
The Spartans proved that they are one of the best teams in state no matter the class by taking Minnetonka, the number 2 team in 4AAAA, to overtime and losing by 6.
“That game showed the state and our team that we belong in the conversation as one of the best teams in state,” Andrew said. “Coming into the season we knew we had the potential to be one of the best Orono girls basketball teams yet, and now it just comes down to who wants it more.”
Andrew is second on the team in scoring averaging 13.5 points per game for the Spartans.
The girls next game is against New Prague on February 5 who is one of the better teams in the state.
The game will decide who wins the conference championship, a feat that Orono has not done in a while.
