On Tues. Feb. 4, the Orono-Mound-Westonka boys swim and dive team had a challenging meet against Buffalo. Though they lost (97 to 87), the boys competed hard and swam their best. It was senior night as well as parent’s night. After that meet, the boys record stood at 4-4.
Regarding their season, head coach Pete Buecher was proud of how the team performed this year. “Compared to last year,” Buecher said, “we are doing well.” Because the team is a “young squad,” there is a lot of time for improvement.
“This year went well,” junior captain Chase Olsen said. “We have improved a lot since last year, and I’m excited for next year. I think we just keep getting better and better.”
Dive coach Todd Hansen was proud of the divers this year. “The boys are really doing well. I tell them what to do, and they just get on the board and do it. They’ve been doing the big dives that I’ve been looking for,” Hansen said.
The meet against Buffalo on Tuesday was their last home meet and also their last dual meet. The Wright County Conference meet is on Sat. Feb. 14, in Hutchinson.
“Conference should be interesting,” said Buecher. “There are only 4 teams this year, and there are a couple really good kids on each.”
Buecher said that conference will come down to who ever has that extra push in the finish. Hopefully our boys will finish strong.
