The Orono girls basketball team have started the season with tremendous success. The girls record is currently 14-0.
“The biggest factor would definitely be team chemistry. We all know each other’s strengths and and we try to reflect those on the court,” junior Meghan Mandel said. Mandel, a 6’4” post, brings height to the team along with someone strong in the post position.
Senior captain Caitlin Boyle says that this is such a major change from freshman year to senior year. “Being a senior and seeing our team go from freshman year to winning 3 games to a fourteen game winning streak is completely mind-blowing,” Boyle said.
The chemistry and transformation is all completely credited to the players. Although they have had to put in a lot of hard work, the coaching staff is a major part of the success.
“They care so much about our success. They spend hours on end scouting every team, making scouting reports, taking time out of their personal lives to help benefit our success,” senior captain Kiera Nelson said.
The team strives to be the first Orono Spartans team for an undefeated season. However, it will be a challenge. “For the rest of the season we can’t overlook any team. It shouldn’t matter what team we play if we play our game we should do just fine,” junior Hannah Striggow said.
