Senior point guard Cole Hennings is the second recipient of Athlete of the Month for the Orono Spartans during the 2014-2015 sports season.
Hennings has been on a tear lately for the Orono boys basketball team. Hennings is one of the top players in the state and last year was named to the All-State tournament team.
The Spartans had big expectations coming into the season and part of the reason was due to Hennings.
Orono is ranked as one of the top teams in the state and Hennings is also one of the top scorers in the state.
As a senior captain he has to show leadership qualities to help this team succeed and he has so far. He is leading the Spartans in scoring per game with averaging 18.6 points per game according to Minnesota Basketball Hub.
The boys are off to a 4-2 start after losing to Chaska on Dec. 11.
“We are a good team and will only get better when the season rolls on,” Hennings said.
Hennings was also a captain for the soccer team. He is a dual sport athlete and excelling at both.
Hennings also does well in the classroom and does extra volunteering things to help the school and the community.
All of these reasons are why Cole Hennings has been nominated as the second athlete of the month for the Orono Spartans during the 2014-2015 school year.
