Yesterday, each grade level at Orono High School (OHS) was called down to the auditorium to listen to a presentation put on by Impact Lives.
Impact Lives is a service learning organization that promotes problem solving as well as leadership. Dr. Ramón Pastrano presented to OHS students about what it means to be a good leader, and how to implement qualities of a good leader into their lives.
The projects that Impact Lives promotes allow for a service to be completed in order to better a community in need. The learning portion of each project allows for volunteers and those of the local community to learn from each other. Leadership skills are also learned along the way by those who are involved with service learning projects at Impact Lives.
OHS is also getting involved in its own service project. On Feb. 3, there will be a food packing event taking place through Impact Lives. The goal of the project is to pack 170,000 meals to send to Liberia to help those inflicted by Ebola.
