Senior, midfielder, Catherine Fraser is the first Athlete of the Month for the Orono Spartans during the 2014-2015 sports season.
Fraser racked up two goals and six assists adding up to a total of eight points in 19 games. Additionally, she plays stellar defense. Her position requires her to play offense and defense and whatever Fraser is doing, she does it well. She has helped Orono to an outstanding 16-2-1 record and has her to led to a section class A championship this season.
In the section championship game versus Benilde, she played almost the entire game and helped the Spartans stop the high powered offense of the Red Knights. The Red Knights came into the game having scored 67 goals over the course of the season. Fraser and her teammates held Benilde to only one goal in the Spartans 2-1 win. The game went into penalty kicks where the Spartans prevailed.
“That game had me in shock, it was back in forth but I knew we would prevail,” Fraser said.
Fraser is the vocal leader of the Spartans. This is her second year being a captain and she has done it brilliantly. Although not known for flashy play, she has recently been voted as an All-State player. Fraser is a captain with Claire Bash and Abby Chargo.
As well as being an exceptional soccer player, Fraser is the captain of the Orono Girls Alpine team and has been the captain of the Lacrosse team since her sophomore year.
“It is an honor to be voted as the Athlete of the Month,” Frasier said.
Fraser has shown that hard work won’t go unnoticed. She is a strong example of Orono’s Athlete of the Month.
