Each year on Oct. 11 the LGBTQ community celebrates National Coming Out Day. A day that remembers more than just coming out.
It is name is often deceiving though. National Coming Out Day is not the only day that celebrates coming out, but also the anniversary of the “March on Washington”.
On Oct. 11 1987, approximately a half a million people went to Washington D.C. for the second “March on Washington” for LGBTQ rights.
The day is suppose to be about making coming out known and that coming out “still matters”. The thought is that if people can connect with someone who is out, they will be more willing to support LGBTQ rights.
