It is that time of the year again. School starts, weather gets colder, and of course, Apple streams its annual keynote announcing its new product lineup for the year. Apple’s keynote premiered September 9, 2014. They announced a number of new products and features and an updated operating system.
The keynote started with the announcement of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. These new phones are both thinner and lighter than the previous model, the iPhone 5S, but larger in screen size. The 6 Plus is a larger size and has a larger display. The 6 and 6 Plus will come with a new operating system, iOS 8, which will later be available as a free download for everyone with an iPhone 4S and up. The new phones also come with a new camera which includes continuous autofocus video. They will also have TouchID like the previous model. The new phones also have a longer battery life, so that means more time for gaming, calling, texting, and surfing the web!
After the new phones, the keynote moved on to the updated operating system: iOS 8. It comes with a ton of new features. It has an update for the photo app with an easier organization system. It also has an update for iMessage which allows you to add a recorded message to your conversation. It includes a quicker way to send video and lets you send your current location. Another key part to messaging: a simpler way to organize your group messages. You will be able to give your group message a name and also drop and add people to the conversation. The keyboard was also updated to be Apple’s “smartest keyboard ever.” It will now suggest words depending on your tone. There is also a new health-and-fitness app, and iCloud is updated.
A new feature was announce next. It’s called Apple Pay. It basically is a way for you to put all your credit and debit cards on your phone and pay from phone by using TouchID and scanning it on special scanners at available stores. You will also be able to use Apple Pay for online purchases from available websites.
The next big release of the keynote was the Apple Watch.
There are multiple different band styles and different watch faces to choose from so the watch is very customizable. It has so many new technologies like the Digital Crown for scrolling and zoom and new screen sensitivity. It also has many new health-and-fitness features. The Apple Watch will connect with your phone, so you can receive notifications right on the watch. The Apply Watch will be available in early 2015 according to the keynote.
The keynote ended with a bang, aka a performance by U2, and Apple announcing that U2’s new album downloaded off iCloud on to your devices for free.
