Everyone should read the book, Strength In What Remains, by Tracy Kidder. The book tells an incredible story of Deo, a man who grew up in the mountains of Burundi, Rwanda and survived a genocide and civil war before escaping to the U.S. When Deo arrives in New York City, he is homeless and speaks no English. He finds his way to Colombia University and ultimately accomplishes his life long goal.
This has been one of the most moving and inspiring books that I have ever read. Kidder has a remarkable ability to show readers what it means to be fully human and to tell a story based on hope and will. As Tracy Kidder’s website says, “Strength In What Remains is a testament to the power of will and friendship, and the endurance of the soul.” I highly recommend that you read this if your looking for a book to pick up or want to be amazed.
Kidder is a Pulitzer-Prize winning author and the book was on the New York Times best-selling novels when it was published in 2009.
