Althogh this past wrestling season was tough, the team managed to double their wins from last season. The team’s record was 2-12, while they finished tenth in conference.
“Our biggest challenge this year was not having enough people. We can’t fill every weight class, so there [are] a lot of forfeits in most of the duals,” junior Jackson Striggow said.
Although the team has been struggling, individually Striggow and senior captain Charlie Schmid have done very well.
Both are expected to do very well at State. The State tournament was February 27 through March 1 at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.
At the time of publication, C. Schmid, Striggow and sophomore Johnny Schmid had all won their first round matches at State competition, which means that all three Orono wrestlers advanced to the quarterfinals.
