Overall both the girls and boys nordic ski team teams did very well this season. The girls team finished third in conference and had five skiers win all conference, while two skiers with honorable mention.
“Our biggest challenge this year was the cold. There has been frostbite and it has prevented us from practicing and racing, it forces us to practice inside a lot,” junior Cabrini Winkles said. Nordic is not the only sport suffering from this issue.
Senior Mike Choiniere was sent to State and finished ranked no. 54. The girls team did not send anyone to State.
He competed in three different events while at State, freestyle, classic, and pursuit. His time for freestyle was 19:16. The time for his classic event was 17:32.4. His time for pursuit was 36:48.4. Junior varsity member David Boschwitz got first at JV championship.
The boys and girls teams looks forward to pulling together for next season.
“We have to really pull together and make up for some strong seniors that we are going to lose from both boys and girls teams. Although we have to fill those spots, I am confident that we will be able to fill those top positions,” Winkels said.
