Hello I am Mr. Tarsier, I can be found on the islands of Southeast Asia. I have a few distinct features that set me a part from other creatures of the world, the obvious one being my eyes. Each of them, believe it or not, is as big as my brain. A feature not many animals can match. Another, more unknown and “kooky” feature I possess is my abnormally large hind legs. While my body can be anywhere from 10-15 centimeters long, my hind legs are twice that. We tarsiers use this extra length to jump from tree to tree. While we are a part of the primate family, we possess attributes that differ from all other primates. For example, tarsiers are the only complete carnivores in the primate family. Our diet consists of mainly insects, but sometimes, if ambitious, we will take on a bird or two within our jumps from tree to tree. Being a tarsier out here in the leafy land of Southeast Asia, however, isn’t always easy. Some of my cousins, like the Siau Island Tarsier, are considered critically endangered. I, however hope to live a long and prosperous life, frolicking through the trees, catching occasional birds and observing my surroundings carefully with my abnormally large eyes.
Sincerly,
Mr. Tarsier
