2013 will mark the 16th year of the Polar Plunge in Minnesota. This year, OHS is sending 16 teachers off to take the plunge in support of the Minnesota Special Olympics.
The goal of the Polar Plunge is to raise money for the Special Olympics. The Polar Plunge crew travels to 16 different communities in Minnesota throughout the coldest months of the year, January, February and March. Each participant makes raises a minimum of $75 and takes a dip in the freezing cold water in one of the 10,000 lakes of Minnesota.
Teachers from all different departments in the high school will be hoping to raise at least $100 per teacher, when this goal is reached, they have agreed to take the plunge. Not only are teachers getting involved in supporting the Special Olympics, but students are as well. Orono Schools has it’s very own Special Olympics basketball team with a variety of students with disabilities and students without disabilities who contribute to the team and help out during practices.
Do your part in support of the Special Olympics. Donate money to the teacher’s jars or register for the Polar Plunge yourself. Visit http://www.plungemn.org/register to register!
