    The tale behind the look

    The+tale+behind+the+look

During the harsh winter season, I often find it difficult to pinpoint a trend other than sweaters, jeans, and UGG boots.  The problem with those is that they happen every year.  It’s not interesting to read about over and over again.  It’s boring.  However, hearing different stories behind unique pieces of fashion is something that will never get old.  Everyone has that one sweater from your mom’s 80’s bin that they brought back, or a special gift that means the world to them.  So for the next few weeks I hope to bring some of these inspiring stories to life, and still intertwine a little fashion advice with it.  This is a new venture and it may lead to a new perspective for this New Year.

Starting off with a truly heartwarming story is junior Chloe Richey, who told me about a unique gold ring with blue topaz stones.  “I have this ring that my mom gave me..I got it for my 16th birthday, just like when my mom, grandma, and great grandma got it when they turned sixteen,” said Richey.  It is a simple, and versatile gold band that can go along with any outfit.  “I wear it on my middle finger on my right hand when it matches my outfits.  Also, on special occasions, too.”

Her ring has been passed down from generation to generation starting with her great grandmother, and she hopes one day to create memories that she can always remember through her ring.  It truly is the little things that can change an outfit.  What fashion truly comes down to is not the trends, brands, or color schemes.  All that matters is that you have confidence and pride when you put on an outfit for the day.  If you feel good about yourself, then nothing else matters. Make it your own. Make it meaningful. The little sparks throughout the day when you look down at a ring, vintage dress, or army boots can keep you upbeat and a little more positive during the day.
